Training To Survive A Big Wave Wipeout

This feels like an analogy for life and why we shouldn’t be so upset when stressful and difficult things happen to us. Those stressful things are helping us develop strengths and skills, so down the road we can conquer even bigger challenges and achieve greater goals.

Greg Smith says:

Two things I appreciate about this video. Those who are highly skilled at surfing big waves constantly try to improve; and, the honesty to say that nothing can really simulate getting slammed by one of those puppies!

I think good training would be to fill a giant drum full of water to the top, put the person in it and close the lid and push the drum down a rough hill where it rolls for 30 sec -1 min banging the person around while they hold their breath, then a person at the bottom opens the lid and lets them out.

And he is, under weighted– in Hawaiian regs. = strength, ability!

Paul Hetherington says:

In sports, you train at around– half markers– morons! You don't dive, 100 ft down, for O'HANA' etc…
Then why? the illegal hair– length? On US cameras– only? No Hawaiian– footage.

Jake D says:

I'm all for big wave safety but wtf is this? How bout grab some boards and go surf some "intermediate" breaks or something. Spend some time practicing… or shall I say….surfing?
