Surfing MASSIVE Waves on Hawaii Outer Reef 30ft+

It seems like I’m on an interesting energy flow in which the ocean wants me to be in Hawaii every time there’s the biggest swell of the year & the waves are 30ft+. I booked my tickets to Oahu to simply hang out with Jamie Obrien & shoot some fun footage, but by the time we got there a massive swell was on the buoys & the dream was ready to be on. I can’t believe the amount of blessings I’ve received from the universe in the last 5 years of my life. THANK YOU Nub Nation for everything! FOR THE DREAM!!! – Ben

30 foot would be 60 Hawaiian 😁

Kawika Hertz says:

You need to make the distinction between the different islands. The title says "on Hawaii Outer Reef" Oahu is not Hawaii. It is one of the islands that make up the state of Hawaii. Hawaii is the name of the Big Island and also the state.

Stephen Daniel says:

When I was younger I worked with an old iron worker that grew up riding rafts in La Jolla at spots like boomers as a kid before the boogie board. So there may be some raft enthusiasts out there to rebirth the movement.

Mike D says:

The best North Shore training is getting rolled in massive surf and gaining the confidence that you're gonna get to the surface eventually. Then, the next time you're looking up at the lip as pitches over your head, you can pull in instead of straightening out.

Couldn't wait for the outside reef session and it didn't disappoint. Real fear and Ben drives right through it

Atomic Vibes says:

Thanks Ben! JOB really gets a kick out of getting you out of your comfort zone but in the most "I know you've got this" kind of way. And hearing Nathan Florence getting a laugh outta making the "Ben Gravy Blog" was great.

Jamie has a way of getting you to do things you might not do your self. He gives you that extra push you need to expand. Raft on a 30 plus wave. That is crazy.

Surf Brownie says:

Woohoo!! Alohaaa

Louis Patino says:

Excellent surf session and video production Ben, you and Jamie surfed the offshore reefs really well. Tow-in surfing at that outside break on the North Shore is phenomenal and you guys had it all to yourselves to discover it before the rest of the big wave community got out there to score some waves and brought the crowd. Way to discover Hawaii!

Ben you magazines would have flicked you 25 years ago as Laird Hamilton I would have believed their lies. This is serious. This is like blessed 2 days of the year, in complete zen. Waking up not doing anything all day sitting in meditation pose, literally, drinking tea, smoking cannabis from a tobacco pipe, drink more tea, feel the cold breeze of the cold front after stretching your legs inhumanely on a lotus or quarter lotus pose, not above top just crossed for 12 hours on your ass, listening to zen music on the component, dont eat, sleep on the ground that night on a towel, wake up realize or already know that the waves without looking at anything are going to be tres palmas, get there, swim from black eagle to tres palmas and embrace earth, in the way that only actual pipeline could bless you or any other spot around the world known for big stuff 6-8ft high at the back of the wave mountains of frosty offshore and you with the most tiny board get up and down that and grab so many waves at 20ft you come back and forget about meditating because mentally your winter is over. but the craziest fury to not only Duckie in front of fearful men, the center of the biggest crest and submerge myself under water but also stay on your chest and go up that beast like yes that was vertical. then the next one, without the classic outside yell. Just know that you look right straight ahead from you you see tsunami, and Godzilla and if your me, you dont waste your energy outside, you chill, let it come to you, know that the wave is big but it won't break and take off at the impact with balls, high on cannabis, balls, courage, wisdom all this shit, everyone looking at you like yo this man is nuts and their boards are all 10ft and mine is tiny like the height of mason ho tiny, like if one doesn't own anything but love the water play more than they ever will, willing to ride whatever to be there.
